Bill’s Restaurant Summer Menu – Fresh, Tasty and Refreshing
There are only very few places in town that serve a decent Bloody Mary, which happens to be my favourite cocktail and rather unpopular with most people I know! So, when I fancy a fiery tomato and vodka drink I visit Bill’s Restaurant. Very well known for their breakfast dishes, Bill’s are fantastic at making awesome tasting cocktails too!
Last week Bill’s Colchester invited us to try their new summer menu, which is absolutely fantastic and can only be described as refreshing, flavourful and at times quite surprising (of course in a good way)!
Illuminated by the candle light and surrounded by musical sounds of what had to be a very creative Spotify playlist, our table was ready for enjoyment. We were greeted with a smile and looked after all evening by super friendly staff, which happened to be all ladies, from the front of house staff to the General Manager! Their only goal was to make sure we are comfortable, happy and most importantly, have fun! Which I must admit, is always the case at Bill’s, I haven’t had a single bad experience when it comes to customer service there.
We started our dinner with chicken and sesame dumplings with Bill's spicy chutney; crumbed halloumi sticks with lime aioli; and crispy feta and watermelon salad, accompanied by several delicious cocktails.
I absolutely loved the halloumi sticks, and lime aioli was a fantastic dip for it! Complemented by a frozen watermelon Margarita it went down a treat!
When I say the flavours were at times surprising, I mostly had in mind the crispy feta and watermelon salad. The salad was served with Bill's dressing, Niçoise olives, green chilli, red onion and mint. Watermelon and onion? I would have never thought of that combination, but all together it tasted absolutely scrumptious. During summer days, when sitting indoors is not an option, a refreshing salad and a fruity cocktail is all you need!
For the mains we chose the pan fried chicken with herbed mashed potatoes, long stem broccoli and a creamy wild mushroom sauce; and a crab and courgette risotto cooked in a smoky tomato stock with chives and plum tomato. Two very different dishes, but both super tasty. Chicken breast was juicy and tender, mashed potatoes were creamy and flavourful, even the vegetables were cooked to perfection! The mushroom sauce was to die for! I love wild mushrooms, and of course, anything creamy!
Crab and courgette risotto was full of flavour, it reminded me of the times at the seaside where tasting sea food is a must!
I don’t really have a sweet tooth and to be fair, all of the food we had filled us up nicely, so we didn’t order desserts. Instead we had a few more cocktails – Espresso Martini and Pineapple Somerset Sour.
All in all, we had a great evening at Bill’s and for that thank you to everyone that looked after us during our dinner. We will definitely be back!
