Colchester Gin Festival - I Am the Only One in the World Who's Not Keen on Gin & Tonic?
Last weekend Gemma and I were invited to Colchester Gin Festival hosted by The Gin To My Tonic and we had such a great time! Even the miserable rainy whether didn’t matter, when you’re in a company of good friends all seems to be a little bit more positive, happy times!
We haven’t seen each other for over a month and a half and were really looking forward to our afternoon of fun! We started with a delicious pan pacific inspired lunch at Pavilion Restaurant. It’s been a good while since I dined there, but as always, the food was impeccable! I had a meat bento box, Gemma ordered chicken sliders with chips and we also shared some Ebi stretch prawns with sweet chilli mayo and spring rolls with sweet and sour plum sauce. Of course, a nice bottle of Prosecco was a necessity!
After a quick catch up we walked to Charter Hall where the Gin Festival was held. On the entrance we received a goodie bag including a gin explorer guide, gin copa glass, tote bag and a stainless steel straw. Sophie, one of the event organisers, was super kind and gifted us some drink tokens which we ended up using to try 4 different types of gins.
I must start by mentioning that I am not a fan of gin. I know, I know, I am very much behind the trend, after all, gin has become one of the most popular drinks in the world.
I always thought that gin only comes with tonic and that’s what I dislike the most - bitterness of the tonic however, I now know that not only there are an incredible amount of different gin varieties, but also, you can choose a mix that would suit your own taste. Gemma was determined to turn me into a gin lover and I can now say - she was successful!
The four gins we tried were - Boë Passion, Boe Boë Scottish Bramble, Peaky Blinders and Mr. Hobbs Rhubarb & Ginger. I went for the fruity ones and had them with Fever Tree Ginger Ale, and there you go, I was converted!
I can honestly say, the event was great. I loved the atmosphere - the room was illuminated by colourful projector lights, surrounded by various gin, rum and vodka stalls. An acoustic duo were playing some really great music and the vibe itself was so chilled!
I would definitely recommend attending the event next year!
Thanks again, for inviting us, we had a fantastic time!
